J&K custodial death: One more cop arrested

The special investigating team probing the custodial death of a 26-year-old youth in north Kashmir Sopore town, on Wednesday evening arrested another policeman for his alleged involvement in the death.

Earlier this week, the SIT had arrested two policemen also for their alleged involvement in the custodial death of Nazim Rashid alias Naved Anjum on July 31.

"The special investigating team, which is being supervised by deputy inspector general of police, north Kashmir on Wednesday arrested one more policeman, head constable, Janak Raj", a police spokesman said.

Nazim, had been picked by the special operations group of the state police in Sopore town for questioning on July 30 and he died while in custody hours later.

The custodial death had triggered protests in the capital city and other towns, A valley-wide shutdown had been called by the hard-line separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
