The Indo-Tibetan Border Police jawan, who had allegedly killed his superior and injured another colleague by opening fire at the prestigious Indian Administrative Services Academy in Mussoorie two days ago, on Sunday surrendered before police in New Delhi.

ITBP officials said Constable Chandra Shekhar surrendered early Sunday morning before the Sector 34 police even as he told them that he had hid the assault weapon and about 100 rounds of ammunition near the Company garden area in Mussoorie after allegedly perpetrating the incident.

Officials said Shekhar has been arrested and he will be produced before a court to obtain a transit remand for him to Mussoorie in Uttarakhand.

Shekhar is accused of killing his officer Subedar Surendra Lal and injuring another colleague who is recuperating at a hospital in Dehradun.

Following the incident, the ITBP had decided to replace the unit guarding the academy with immediate effect.
