Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised a heavy-handed response after two Palestinians attacked a Jerusalem synagogue with a gun and meat cleavers, killing four rabbis and wounding eight others.
Netanyahu warned that he will “settle the score” with every terrorist and added that all those who want to uproot the Israelis from their state and capital will not succeed.
Tuesday’s attack, which came after weeks of unrest stirred by tension over a disputed holy site, was termed the ‘deadliest’ in Jerusalem in six years. Netanyahu added, “We will respond with a heavy hand to the brutal murder of Jews who came to pray and were killed by lowly murderers.”
Declaring that Israel is embroiled in a battle over its "eternal capital," Jerusalem, Netanyahu ordered the home of the attackers to be destroyed.
He urged Israelis to stand together and to not take law into their hands even if “if spirits are riled and blood is boiling”.
