The state government has ordered to close down all the schools till January 6 to give relief to children from unbearable cold.
Earlier, the Patna district administration ordered closure of all the government as well as private schools till January 5 due to cold wave. The district authorities in Bhagalgur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Gaya have also ordered closure of schools.
The state has been experiencing a cold spell for the last few days with the minimum temperature hovering around 6 to 8 degree celsius.
According to official sources, seven people died due to cold in Farbisganj in Araria district, two each in Shekhpura, Motihari and Sitamarhi and one each in Darbhanga, Patna, Gaya and Muzaffarpur.
The meteorological department officials said the cold wave condition may continue for the next few days due to westerly wind blowing from Jammu and Kashmir to Assam and beyond.
