K Suresh Rao, a DSP-level officer who once served as Chief Security Officer to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, shot himself with his service pistol at his office at around 4.15 pm, police said.
No suicide note was found from the scene, they said.
The 47-year-old was having health problems and underwent treatment between July 19 and 30 at a private hospital and joined duty on July 31,
Hearing the gunshot, Rao's colleagues rushed to his cabin. They immediately got him shifted to a local hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, said P V Ravi Varma, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Panjagutta Division).
Another officer said Rao had worked for a brief period (as part of routine duty) as Chief Security Officer to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Police were investigating the matter.
