An Indian-origin taxi driver was assaulted by a passenger in New Zealand, nearly two months after a cabbie from the community was stabbed to death in the country. Mohinder Singh is recovering at home from injuries received during the attack by a passenger in Brookfield on Sunday morning, New Zealand Herald reported on Tuesday, without identifying the assailant.

Singh was among two Tauranga-Mount taxi drivers who were attacked in the past two days, company manager Bruce Rainey said. Another driver working for the same company was robbed and threatened by a passenger on Monday night, Rainey said.

"There's some sort of perception that our guys are an easy target," he said, adding the two attacks were worrying for him.

Hiren Mohini, a 39-year-old taxi driver in Auckland, was fatally stabbed by a passenger on January 31.

There have been two other known attacks on Indians in New Zealand in recent times. While 78-year-old Jasmatbhai Patel was killed in a road rage incident last year, liquor store owner Navtej Singh was shot dead in 2008.
