India seeks Krishna-Qureshi meeting in New York

India has sought a meeting between External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York,  diplomatic sources said.

Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Sharat Sabharwal conveyed New Delhi's request during a meeting with Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir here.

The foreign office has conveyed this to the highest levels in the civilian and military leadership, the sources said, adding the chances of a meeting are very likely. While Krishna will be in New York till September 29, Qureshi will be there till September 30.

During his stay in New York, Krishna is scheduled to attend a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA session.

He will be meeting Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and will also attend President Barack Obama's reception in New York.

The minister will also be involved in several "plurilateral events" with several groups including G77, NAM, BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China), IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa) and the G4 (India, Japan, Germany and Brazil).
