A bid to blast the India-bound Thar Express has been unsuccessful, as the blast could only result in the derailment of two of its compartments at Dhabeji near Karachi.

According to details, a number of explosives had been planted at the up track, aimed at hitting the train en-route from Karachi to India, Geo News reported.

Police teams and bomb disposal squad have seized parts of the damaged rail track and explosives have been found from the blast scene.

On Friday night, two compartments of the Thar Express train had derailed at Dhabeji place, 67 kilometers from Karachi, after an explosion on its track.

There were 155 passengers, including 105 Pakistanis and 50 Indian nationals, on board. However, no loss of life or injury was reported in the mishap, according to sources.

Pakistan Railways said that after the track work is completed, normal services would resume.
