The Central Bureau of Investigation has directed Karunakar Reddy, one of the mining tycoons-turned-politicians Reddy brothers of Bellary, to appear before it on September 16 in connection with the illegal mining case.

Karunakar Reddy, who is the brother of Janardhan Reddy who is in CBI custody, will have to appear before the CBI court at Nampally in Hyderabad on September 16.

The notice was sent to Karunakar Reddy at his residence in Bellary on Wednesday. The CBI, which had arrested Janardhan Reddy last week, is investigating the case pertaining to the Obulapuram Mining Company.

It was alleged that Reddy had obtained the mining lease from Andhra Pradesh and had used the same to mine illegally in Karnataka.

Janardhana Reddy is being interrogated nearly five hours everyday. The name of his brother Karunakar Reddy also appeared in this case and hence the CBI has decided to question him too in this regard.

The CBI says that it has obtained some vital information and would like to ascertain more through the interrogation of Karunakara Reddy.
