Madhukar Gupta, secretary, youth affairs and sports, will be the new Union home secretary, official sources said on Monday.
Gupta, a 1971-batch IAS officer of the Uttarakhand cadre, will take over from V K Duggal, who retires on March 31.
Gupta will join the ministry as OSD before taking charge from Duggal.
