Delhi Police has sought fresh directions from the Union Home Ministry after Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, turned down the Z category security provided to him.

The Delhi Police has sent a letter to the Home Ministry after Vadra refused to let the policemen accompany him, official sources said.

Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi, was provided Z category security last year after Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil decided to provide security to the kith and kin of all VIPs.

Vadra, according to the letter, does not want policemen to accompany him and he has not listened to repeated requests by police officials, the sources said.

The Delhi Police has sought fresh directions from the Union Home Ministry in case a similar situation arose again, the sources said.

An Elite Special Protection Group cover was provided to Priyanka because of high threat perception from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, the outfit responsible for the assassination of her father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Vadra was also provided with an elite SPG cover while accompanying his wife.

A similar complaint was pending against Praveen Togadia, general secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, who managed to give a slip to his escort team several times and traveled in a car without any security cover.
