HJC open to supporting both Congress and INLD

After getting feelers from the Congress, Haryana Janhit Congress, which won six seats in the recent assembly elections in the state, has decided to be part of the next government in the state.

"At the first meeting of the Members of Legislative Assembly (after the results were announced), we have decided not to sit in the Opposition. We will be part of the government to work for the people of Haryana," HJC leader Kuldeep Bishnoi said.

"We will take a call today evening (on the issue of whom to support)," he said, adding that the HJC have been receiving feelers from both Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal.

Bishnoi told reporters that the newly-elected MLAs have authorised him to decide whether to support Congress or INLD, which has won 31 seats in the 90-member House. Congress emerged as the single largest party by winning 40 seats, but was six MLAs short of the magic figure of 46.

Sources in Congress said the party was open to taking the support of HJC, if it was unconditional. Bishnoi claimed his party was neither 'bargaining nor blackmailing' any party in the fluid political situation in the state. On who should be the next chief minister, he said the HJC was not concerned about it.

"If we support the Congress, it has to decide on the leader and if we support INLD, it will have to decide on its leader," he said.
