"Headley stayed in the city for a day in June 2008 and March 2009 and visited the ashram, frequented by foreigners," Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Ravindra Sengaonkar told PTI.
According to ashram officials, he visited the establishment at Koregaon Park for meditation, he said. The Osho Ashram is also very close to the Chabad house in Pune, a fact not lost on the police who have established a permanent picket near the house.
Headley, accused of masterminding terror attacks in India at the behest of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, is believed to have visited Pune on a business visa and left for Mumbai later, police sources said.
A team of National Investigation Agency sleuths which recently visited the city in connection with the probe has provided details of Headley's visit, they added.
A spokesperson for Osho Ashram, Amirti Sadhna, said they were open to all and visited by thousands of people for meditation.
"It is possible that Headley may have come here. We are fully cooperating with the police in the investigations," she said.
