Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has hit the Congress hard by ensuring the defeat of senior Congress leaders like Shaktisinh Gohil and Arjun Modhwadia.
But Modi will have greater satisfaction to see that Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel's Bharuch Lok Sabha constituency is also going the Bharatiya Janata Party's way.
It's likely that three seats (out of seven) held by the Congress in Patel's native district of Bharuch is going to BJP this year.
South Gujarat has saved Modi's izzat, this time.
The shocker to Ahmed Patel will be compounded because his party's senior leaders are losing except Shankersinh Vaghela with whom Patel has a hot and cold relation.
Modi may have been 'successfully contained' at the national level as Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram implied but in Gujarat there remains no doubt that Modi has 'successfully contained the Congress'.
