One civilian was seriously wounded in a powerful hand grenade explosion in the heart of summer capital Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.
A senior police officer said militants lobbed a grenade at a bunker of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in the Maharaj Bazzar area of the uptown city on Tuesday afternoon.
"The grenade exploded near the bunker injuring a civilian passer-by. He was immediately evacuated to hospital for treatment," the officer said.
The blast triggered panic in the area with shoppers and shopkeepers running for security.
Security forces are now conducting searches in the area, witnesses said. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
