Kuldip Nayar, veteran journalist and author of many books, thinks that the current Parliament does not represent the sentiments of the people.
"This Parliament should be dissolved and the government should go for a mid-term poll if they are not able to satisfy the people."
On the Lokpal and Lokayuktas bill that is being debated in Parliament, he said, "People outside Parliament are asking for a stronger bill and this government and Parliament are in no position to provide it. It is better they go back to people."
He said the issue of Lokpal bill has shown that there is a de-link between the people and the government. If the government thinks its stand is correct then let the country go for a referendum on the issue of the Lokpal.
Nayar, who has been reporting on Parliament since 1954, says, "Unfortunately these days all debates have become quite personalised. I see, now, inside Parliament leaders and political parties settle scores."
Nayar, also, criticised Anna Hazare for not having patience. He said, "Anna's fast should have started after December 29. He should have waited and seen how these parliamentarians are behaving. If they did not vote for a strong bill, Anna had the option to go on a fast."
