A teenage girl, who tried to commit suicide here after the man accused of raping her got bail, succumbed to her injuries on Friday after remaining four days in critical condition, hospital officials said.
The 17-year-old girl had tried to commit suicide by setting herself ablaze four days back, as her school teacher, accused of raping her, was granted bail.
The girl died in Goa Medical College and Hospital near Panaji, where she was undergoing treatment, superintendent of hospital Dr Rajan Cuncolienkar confirmed.
The girl, who had sustained 90 per cent burnt injuries, breathed her last at 4.45 pm today, he said. The post-mortem would be conducted on Saturday, Dr Cuncolienkar added.
The Panaji police, who are investigating the rape case, have now decided to move for the cancellation of bail application of the accused teacher Kanhaiya Naik.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had assured in the House that the issue would be handled in a serious manner. The girl was raped by at the teacher's residence during her remedial classes in December 2011. He was arrested in January this year.
In her dying declaration, the victim has confirmed that she took the extreme step out of fear, as the accused was out on bail.
