Ghani Khan Chowdhury is dead

Veteran Congress leader and former Union minister A B A Ghani Khan Chowdhury died at a city nursing home today of multi-organ failure following acute pancreatitis. He was 79.

Chowdhury, who was on ventilatory support since April 3, had been critically ill with acute gall stone pancreatitis and renal complications. He was admitted to a Kolkata hospital after being flown in from his home district of Malda in North Bengal with acute abdominal pain.

Senior Congress leaders and party workers rushed to the nursing home after learning of Chowdhury's demise.
