Over 1,000 gelatin sticks were among a huge consignment of explosives seized on Tuesday from two persons here, a senior police official said.
"D Srinivas and V Yadaiah were apprehended after they were found in possession of 1,600 gelatin sticks (weighing 200 kg) and 32 bundles of electric detonators numbering 1,450 units. Two cars used to supply the explosive materials were also seized," city Police Commissioner A K Khan told reporters.
Police have stepped up vigil in Andhra Pradesh as a precautionary measure after the July 13 serial blasts in Mumbai.
Acting on a tip-off, the Task Force sleuths (South Zone) nabbed the duo from I S Sadan area, he said. "The duo did not possess any documents with regard to the explosive materials. This is serious violation of the Explosives Substances Act," Khan said.
The seized consignment, which was being brought to Hyderabad from Nalgonda, belongs to an explosive manufacturing company.
Police were verifying if the materials had been stolen from that company or if somebody from the firm had illegally supplied it to the duo, the Commissioner said.
