Toughening its stand against pro-Pakistan leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Jamaat-e-Islami has removed him from its advisory council and asked him to vacate his house in Srinagar, a Jamaat property.

A letter was sent to Geelani late on Wednesday night informing him about his 'replacement' and directions to vacate his residence, Amir-e-Jamaat Nazir Ahmed Kashiani told PTI.

Kashiani, however, refused to divulge the name of Geelani's successor in the council.

Confirming receipt of the Jamaat letter, Geelani said it is 'unconstitutional'.

He said his replacement or the decision to expel him from the advisory council must be taken by the council. "No individual is authorised to take the decision on behalf of the council," he said.
