Despite heavy rains and high security following Saturday's blasts in New Delhi, thousands were present on the streets to bid farewell to the elephant god.
The presence of security personnel across the city was high and no untoward incidents have been reported in the city, police said.
Police personnel across the state have been placed on high alert following the serial blasts in the national capital New Delhi on Saturday.
Revellers braved rains to throng the streets with thousands filling the streets to view the journey of Lalbaugcha Raja, one of the most prominent idols in the city, from central Mumbai to the Girgaum beach in south Mumbai.
Over 3,000 idols are expected to be immersed at Girgaum alone and thousands of others at other seafronts of the city.
Civic authorities said immersions that had taken place since morning, mostly of the smaller idols kept in residences, had passed without incident.
