The Maharashtra government has ordered an inquiry into former Mumbai police commissioner Hassan Gafoor's alleged remarks accusing four senior police officers of dereliction of duty during the 26/11 terror
attacks.

Home Minister R R Patil has directed state additional chief secretary (Home) Chandra Iyengar to conduct an inquiry into the matter.

"It's true that I have been asked to conduct an inquiry into the matter by the home minister," Iyengar told PTI.

Gafoor, in an interview to a magazine, had said "a section of senior police officers refused to be on the ground and take on terrorists. By doing so, they chose to ignore the need of the hour."

Whether a show-cause notice has been served on Gafoor,Iyengar said, "No such notice has been sent. I need to find the facts first by conducting the inquiry."
