As many as 25 Sarpanchs and 135 members of Gram Panchayats from Korchi area of Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra, who had resigned in protest against non-implementation of developmental works and police excesses, on Wednesday withdrew their resignations.

This followed a directive to senior officials by Home Minister R R Patil, who is also the guardian minister of the Naxal-affected district, official sources said.

Earlier in the day, Patil had instructed the district superintendent of police, the collector and Zilla Parishad CEO to hold talks with the disgruntled Gram Panchayat functionaries.

Collector Abhishek Krishna, CEO of Zilla Parishad Sumant Bhange and Superintendent Suvez Haque went to Korchi and held discussions with the Sarpanchas and the members.

The Panchayats were demanding a 33 KV power sub-station, a foodgrains centre and works under the Employment Guarantee Scheme, among other things. The en-mass resignations were submitted on July 11.
