The Group of Seven nations has decided to back a moratorium on loans to nations hit by the tsunami.
A proposal by the Group of Seven in this regard will be put to creditor nations at a meeting of the Paris Club in France on January 12, Britain, which now heads the group, said in a statement on Friday.
A plan on how to go about the moratorium was recently put forward by Gordon Brown, British Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States make up the group.
