More than 45 years after the country's first President Rajendra Prasad's 18K pink gold Rolex Oyster watch was stolen, a case has been lodged in Patliputra police station in Patna, police on Tuesday said.

Kotwali Deputy Superintendent of Police Lalit Mohan Sharma said that a case had been lodged in connection with the theft.

Last month, Tara Sinha, Prasad's grand daughter, had demanded a probe into how the wristwatch reached Geneva.

The watch, which is to be auctioned by Sotheby's in Switzerland, is expected fetch anything between US $2,22,000  (Rs 1,10,35,953) to $4,44,000 (Rs 22,0,69,020).
