Fodder scam: CBI court finds 58 people guilty

A special Central Bureau of Investigation court on Friday convicted 58 accused in the fodder scam, including seven women, for fraudulently withdrawing over Rs eight crore from the Chaibasa Treasury in the early 1990s.

Delivering the verdict, the court of R R Tripathy also acquitted three accused in the case.

Former animal husbandry officials R N Barman, Kameshwar Prasad Singh, Audhesh Kumar Singh and N R Prasad Sinha were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment and were slapped a fine between Rs 50,000 and Rs one lakh by the court.

The court also pronounced equal prison terms against nineteen fodder suppliers, including the seven women, while imposing a fine ranging up to Rs 4.5 lakh.

The court would pronounce the quantum of sentence against the remaining 35 accused on Saturday.
