At least six persons, including two children, were on Tuesday killed when the wall of a building collapsed on two adjacent huts in MJ Colony in Hyderabad.

The incident took place between 1.45 am and 2 am when the retaining wall of the building came down crashing. The deceased include two children, DCP (Malkajgiri Zone) V Shivkumar said.

Rescuers managed to save two other children trapped in the rubble.

Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force, CISF, Fire department, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation besides the police were involved in the rescue operation, the senior police officer said.

Heavy rains lashing the city since two days seems to be the reason behind the collapse, he said.

GHMC Commissioner M T Krishna Babu said two families were staying in these huts since a decade.

"One family of four members and another consisting of a couple were killed in the incident while their two children were rescued," he said.

All the bodies have been recovered from the debris and rescue operations were over. The deceased have not been identified yet.

Two teams consisting of 100 personnel from NDRF stationed at Hakimpet had reached the spot within 45 minutes of the incident and began rescue works, Krishna Babu said.

Revenue Minister Raghuveera Reddy, who visited the spot announced financial assistance for the victims.

On July 8, 18 people were killed when a two-storeyed hotel building collapsed in Secunderabad.
