Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda on Wednesday said some 500 militants were still active in the state. Around 300 militants were active in Valley and the rest in Jammu division, he told mediapersons in Jammu.Speaking about the infiltration from across the border, the DGP said security forces were on high alert to foil such attempts.
On Pakistani media reports about terror outfits, under the banner of the United Jehad Council trying to push militants into India, Khoda said, "These reports are not new and are not at all surprising."
To a question, he said the Public Safety Act had been slapped on some 50-60 youths for indulging in stone-pelting after proper inquiries.
On the frequent release and arrest of separatist leaders in the Valley, the DGP said this was done in accordance with law and order requirements.
