Five personnel from Assam Rifles including two officers were killed in an ambush by terrorists on Monday in a remote hill area of Manipur bordering Myanmar.
Security sources informed that a patrol party of the Assam Rifles was ambushed by suspected militants belonging to United National Liberation Front at Old Samtal area in Chandel district of Manipur at around 0930 hrs on Monday. In the ensuing gun-battle five Assan Rifles personnel including an assistant commandant and a Major were killed.
Reinforcements were sent to the area which is close to India-Myanmar border and a combing operation was launched following the incident.
