An FIR has been lodged against the newly-elected civic body chairman of Bisharatganj, Uttar Pradesh, after it was found that the bullet, which fatally hit a nine-year-old during celebratory firing, was fired from his gun, said the police.
"The bullet which killed Mahtab on July 16, during the oath taking ceremony of Chairman of Nagar Panchyat Mohammad Riyaz Ansari, was fired from his gun by one Danish. An FIR has been registered against Ansari and Danish has been arrested," Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vinay Yadav said.
Taking note of the incident, the circle officer of Bisharatganj has been removed while five policemen have been suspended, sources said.
Celebratory firing, which is banned in the state, took place during the oath-taking ceremony of the chairman.
