The United States on Friday said the sale of F-16 fighters to Pakistan will cause no irritation in the relations between New Delhi and Washington.
US Ambassador David C Mulford said India had no cause to worry about imbalance since it was getting civil nuclear cooperation, a one-time, very special exception for any country.
The deal about F-16 fighter sales was notified to the US Congress in March 2005 and the Indian government was kept informed at every stage, he said.
He said the IAF chief had said that India was not concerned over the sale.
"It will not be a major disruptive issue between us," the envoy said.
He added that the US was cooperating with India in the civil nuclear field. "It is a one-time exception for India. It is a very special initiative for India that we are not doing for anybody else," Mulford said.
