A diplomat from Russian embassy allegedly hit a biker with his speeding car, rammed into a barricade and later assaulted a police official at south Delhi's Moti Bagh area on Wednesday.

The police have registered a case of rash driving, obstructing a public servant from performing duty and assaulting the public servant in connection with the incident which was reported around 1.30 am, said a police official.

The police are likely to submit a case report to the ministry of Home Affairs within 24 hours, he said. The diplomat, who was suspected to be driving in an inebriated state, lost control of the vehicle and hit the rear side of a motorbike, the police claimed.

The biker, identified as Naveen, sustained injuries and was later rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre.

The diplomat then rammed his vehicle into a police barricade in the area and refused to come out of the car bearing a registration number pertaining to the Russian embassy, said the police.

When the officials finally managed to pull the diplomat out of the vehicle, it emerged that the diplomat was injured too. He later started arguing with the police and allegedly assaulted a constable who was on duty, said a police official.

The matter was communicated to the concerned embassy through proper channels and a person was sent to escort the diplomat back to his residence after basic medical treatment, the police said.

Whether the diplomat was drunk can only be ascertained when the result of the medical examination is obtained, the police added.
