A doctor of Indian-origin has been barred from practising for 10 years after she was found guilty of professional misconduct by an Australian medical tribunal.
Suman Sood was barred from practising, with the New South Wales Medical Tribunal saying she was "not of good character".
In August, Sood was the first NSW doctor to be convicted of performing an illegal abortion.
"The respondent is deregistered and further the respondent is not to reapply for re-registration as a medical practitioner for 10 years," Judge Stephen Walmsley was quoted as saying by The Australian.
Sood is also awaiting the sentence following her conviction on two counts of illegaly procuring a miscarriage for a woman who was 23 weeks' pregrant.
Hours after the 20-year old woman was treated, she gave birth to a premature baby son on the toilet at home. Sood was acquitted of the baby's manslaughter.
Sood removed her name from the medical registry following her conviction, but Friday's decision formally deregisters her.
