The Congress party on Thursday rejected charges leveled by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that the party had engineering violence in the state with the help of the religious sect Sacha Sauda in its bid to destablise the government.
Addressing media persons, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said, "Before pointing finger at the Congress party, Badal should realise that three fingers are pointing towards him. It would be better if he controls the law and order rather than blaming the Congress for his misrule."
Singhvi denied that his party had sought the help of the religious sect in the recently held assembly elections.
"We did not ask for help from any religious organization, but if it chose to support Congress candidates, then it is a different matter," he argued.
He wondered why no violence took place when Congress was in power and why the 'honeymoon' for Shromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party could not work out well even before mandatory period of 90 days.
"We condemn the violence as we do not believe in practicing the politics of religious hatred. Nobody has the right to hurt the religious sentiments of any religion," he said.
