The Delhi government on Tuesday banned the use of mobile phones by students and teachers in all government schools.

Delhi has 1250 government schools.

The government also sent an advisory to all private schools seeking steps to curb use of mobile phones.

The decision to impose the ban was taken at a meeting of top government and school officials called by Education
Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely.

The ban comes into force with immediate effect, officials said.
