She is tall, beautiful and is learning to drive a train. Meet Meenakshi Sharma, one of the woman trainees in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

On Friday, Meenakshi could be seen walking from one end of the train to the other to take her position in the driver's cabin.

"I got married on November 20 and I am back on duty as an engine driver. I am enjoying every bit of my work at the DMRC," a beaming Meenakshi, who was still wearing her bridal bangles, said as Madan Lal Khurana, Chairman of the DMRC, looked at her admiringly.

"I joined the DMRC on July 19 this year. I wanted to be a station manager but they offered to train me as a driver. I could not resist the temptation of taking up this challenging assignment," she said.

She admitted that the training was tough and there was tremendous responsibility on those running the trains.

"I am still under training, and till such time that I am able to take over completely I will be assisting the main drivers," she added.

Her husband Ajay Bhoj has not been able to find time to enjoy the train ride. "He is an understanding man and knows that I am serving the people," she said.

Like her colleagues, she does an eight-hour shift and commutes from Gaziabad to Shahdara everyday at seven in the morning.
