8 things you might have not known about Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal swept Delhi away and on February 14 he will keep his date with the nation’s capital and will take the oath of office.

Here are some interesting facts you may not know about the AAP chief.

1) Dr Arvind Kejriwal?

The AAP’s chief father, Gobind Ram Kejriwal, wanted him to be a doctor. He even put away some land in Hissar, Haryana for a hospital to be built on. But he rebelled against the family to enter the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, where he opted to study mechanical engineering.


2) Bollywood fan boy

 

Arvind Kejriwal is a massive fan of Hindi movies and the cerebral actor Aamir Khan is his favourite. While in college, Kejriwal had a keen interest in theatre and acting.


3) Study hard, work hard

 

Arvind Kejriwal cleared his IIT-JEE in first attempt and joined IIT Kharagpur. He also cleared the UPSC exams on his first attempt and joined the Indian Revenue Service.


4) Different kind of babu

 

Kejriwal truly believes that no work is beneath him. As the Income Tax Officer, he would clean his desk himself and empty his own dustbin. He also refused the services of a peon and avoided office get-togethers.


5) Yoga follower

 

Arvind Kejriwal is a strict vegetarian and a keen practitioner of Vipassana for many years. He even meditates regularly.


6) He worked with Mother Teresa

 

After leaving his job at Tata steel, he has worked under Mother Teresa in Kolkata. He started working at the Kalighat Ashram and used to go all across Kolkata, helping the poor and sick on the footpaths and even people with gangrene. They would bring them to the ashram and nurse them to health.  


7) Family man

 

Kejriwal is married to Sunita, who is also an IRS officer. He has two children, but doesn’t celebrate his birthday or the birthdays of his kids.


8) Young energy

 

He is the youngest chief minister of Delhi. Even the second time around.
