The insurgent was identified by his family members as Keisham Rajen, 29, son of K Khamba of Nongren Maning Leikai village of Imphal East district, a police official said.
He was a member of militant outfit, Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup, the official added.
According to the family members who claimed the body, Rajen had left home ten years ago and joined the militant outfit.
The army had recovered the body from the jungles of Leibung village near the ambush site on June 7. It bore three bullet wounds.
Eighteen army men were killed in the deadly attack on the army convoy at Paraolon village in Chandel district on June 4.
Bodies of two militants were also found.
