1st upgraded Mirage 2000 fighter jet arrives

The Indian Air Force on Friday received the first two upgraded Mirage-2000 aircraft from France under a Rs 10,000 crore deal.

The two upgraded aircraft, flown in by IAF pilots from France covering Greece, Egypt and Qatar in over seven days, landed at the Gwalior Air Force Station.

On arrival, the two aircraft were accorded the traditional 'Water Cannon Salute'.

The contract for upgrade was signed with Thales Aeroportes Systems and Dassault Aviation of France.

The upgrades on the aircraft include a night vision goggle-compatible glass cockpit, advanced navigational systems, advanced Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system, advanced multi-mode multi-layered radar, fully integrated electronic warfare suite besides others.

The upgrade programme was successfully completed on schedule.

The subsequent serried upgrade of the Mirage 2000 fleet is being carried out at HAL, Bengaluru.
