DCW summons Delhi police chief for not sharing data of crime against women

The Delhi Commission for Women has summoned police commissioner B S Bassi to appear before it for allegedly not sharing the data sought by it regarding crime against women in the national capital.

The top cop has been asked to appear before DCW on February 8 and also explain the "unreasonable" causes of delay in providing the information.

"The commission takes strong note of the fact that despite sending various letters and notices and passage of several months, you have unjustifiably failed to provide crucial information sought by DCW which is imperative for us on the issue of women safety," DCW Chief Swati Maliwal said in the summon issued to Bassi.

Maliwal has noted that she had raised the issue of non receipt of data during meeting on women safety convened by LG Najeeb Jung in November last year and the meeting of the Special Task Force on women safety held in home ministry in December last.

"During the meetings the commission had raised the issue of non-receipt of data and you had assured that the information sought by us will be immediately provided, however, the same has not been done," the summon said.

"You are summoned to appear before the commission for the purpose on February 8 at 4 PM. You are also required to produce the records and explain the unreasonable cause of delay in furnishing the information," Maliwal added.
