Director General of Punjab Police A A Siddiqui has denied any let up in the probe against Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi and brother Shamsher Singh facing charges of human trafficking.

Siddiqui told rediff.com the new team, which was constituted after the sacking of the earlier team, has already started investigations.

"Just because some officers have been transferred does not mean that we are not continuing investigations against Daler Mehndi or there is any slackening in the case. We are not giving him a breather and we would force him to surrender," Siddiqui said.

Patiala court denies bail to Daler Mehndi

Asked who was supervising the case, he said, "The case is being supervised by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Patiala) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota."

Superintendent of Police R L Monga is assisting Sahota. "We have a good officer in Amarjit Singh Rai who has replaced Umranagal," he added.

Rejecting Mehndi's reported apprehensions of a threat to life, Siddiqui argued the fact that the police did not harm Daler when he appeared before the Patiala Police twice indicates the falsity of such reports.

He also denied the allegations levelled by Daler's advocate Ravinder Kumar that the Patiala police had taken off the pants of the singer when he went for interrogation on October 27.

"If this has happened they could have approached us. We have not received any formal complaint about the incident from Daler or his advocate so far," he said.

Meanwhile, Kumar told rediff.com that they are in the process of finalising their bail petition for Daler Mehndi. He said the petition would be moved before the Punjab and Haryana high court in next couple of days.
