The Central Vigilance Commission has penalised 130 government employees for their alleged involvement in corruption. Of these, 29 were Syndicate Bank officials, nine each were from Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank, eight from State Bank of India, seven from Bharat Coking Coal Limited and six each from State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur and Life insurance Corporation of India Limited.
According to the commission's performance report for October, five each officials from UCO Bank and Vijaya Bank, four from Delhi Development Authority and three each from Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and two each from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Central Board of Direct Taxes and the Delhi government among others were punished.
"Penalties imposed included removal & dismissal of five officials and compulsory retirement in respect of two officials," it said.
Besides, the probity watchdog has affected a recovery of Rs 39.74 lakh from four government departments after inspecting public procurement related works.
During the month, the commission had received a total of 1,143 signed complaints of corruption.
"The commission is deeply concerned over continuing delay in filling the post of the chief vigilance officers in State Bank of Travancore," it said.
