Curfew was on Friday clamped in Bandipora and Kupwara districts and Sopore town in Kashmir in view of a call given by separatists to hold demonstrations to protest the killing of several youth during clashes with security forces in the last one month.

The decision to impose curfew in Bandipora and Kupwara districts and Sopore town was taken in view of the decision by the hard-line faction of the Hurriyat Conference to hold demonstrations in all district headquarters, said the police. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in strength to maintain law and order.

Restrictions on the movement of the people continued in Srinagar, Baramulla district of north Kashmir, Pulwama and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir and Budgam district of central Kashmir, the police said.

Meanwhile, life continued to remain disrupted in the valley with shops and educational institutions closed and transport off the roads due to the week-long shutdown called by the hard-line faction of the Hurriyat Conference led by jailed leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on July 17.
