The mother of an 18-month-old baby girl from Karnataka is believed to have tried in vain to protect her by shielding the child with her body as the Iranian Kish Air plane crashed shortly before landing at the Sharjah airport killing 43 people.
Shameen Pervez held Aula tight as the flight plunged. The baby did not survive but her body did not have any injuries.
Ahmed Pervez, Shameen's husband, and their daughter Naama (3) from Bhatkal district in Karnataka also perished in the crash.
K M Ismail, who helped identify the children at the Dubai mortuary, said Aula did not have even a scratch on her body. Naama's face, however, was badly disfigured.
A doctor said blood samples of Ahmed's younger brother, Rizwan, a resident of Karnataka, will be taken for DNA identification of his body.
Relatives in Abu Dhabi said Ahmed, his wife and children were on their way to India from Kish to attend the last rites of two family members who had died the same morning.
Pervez, a senior accountant with Lari Exchange, lived in Abu Dhabi for 15 years before he was transferred to the Kish
island in Iran. He was carrying a bag full of currency notes for delivery to a company official in Dubai.
The bag, family members said, has been recovered and is in police custody.
