In a case of contempt against a correspondent of a national daily, the Punjab and Haryana high court has asked another reporter of the same newspaper to disclose the identity of the source, who had informed him about the alleged Central Bureau of Investigation raid at the residence of a high court judge in July this year.

Hearing the case of contempt against Hindustan Times journalist Maneesh Chhibber, the division bench comprising Justice G S Singhvi and Justice S S Grewal asked Manish Tiwari, another reporter of the daily, a witness in the case, to reveal the source.

But Tiwari declined to disclose the identity of the source, contending that "it will be against the ethics of journalism".

Tiwari said that he had, however, informed the resident editor about the source of information, who in turn instructed him to pass it on to Chhibber, who covered the legal beat.
