The World Health Organization said that it had registered 2,241 new confirmed cases of the new coronavirus disease worldwide within the past 24 hours, with 84 people having died, which brought the total death toll to 3,282.
The number of people, who were diagnosed with COVID-19, has reached 95,333, including 80,565 people in China.
The toll in China alone has reached 3,042 with the number of people infected with the deadly virus has increased to 80,552 on Friday.
As many as 41 new deaths from coronavirus were reported in Italy, bringing the death toll to 148.
This is the second-highest death toll outside of China where the virus has claimed the lives of over 3,000 people since the outbreak of the epidemic in December last year.
The virus has now reached all 22 regions of Italy and prompted Rome to take unprecedented measures, including suspending all schools and universities and unveiling a $8.4 billion rescue plan.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation, has said that the organisation is concerned that the 'level of political commitment' in some countries does not 'match the level of the threat we all face.'
"This is not a drill. Not a time to give up. Not a time for excuses. This is a time for pulling out all the stops," he said in a tweet.
COVID-19 was first detected in China's Wuhan in late December and has since spread across the world.
In late January, the WHO declared a global health emergency in light of the epidemic.
