Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil on Thursday presented a reward of Rs 10 lakh to the 55-member team of Mumbai police who cracked the journalist Jyotirmoy Dey murder case, arresting seven persons. If divided equally, each team-member would get an approximate Rs 18,000 each.

"For 15 days after Dey's murder, a lot of criticism was heaped on the police force. There was pressure on police who made all efforts to crack the case," Patil said.

"The government put faith in the Mumbai Crime Branch and it did not let us down. We congratulate the police and senior officers involved in the investigation," the minister said.

The arrest of the seven accused in the case had come after enough evidence, Patil said, adding the Crime Branch had worked day and night to solve the case.

The 29 police personnel involved in cracking the Rs 6.73 crore heist at a jewellery expo in suburban Goregaon last year would be given a reward of Rs 5 lakh, he said.
