Police file chargesheet against Kobad Ghandy

Alleged Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy, accused of trying to set up a network of the banned outfit in New Delhi, was  chargesheeted on Friday, by police in a Delhi court under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The Delhi Police Special Cell slapped charges under the Act, besides booking him for various offences under the IPC relating to cheating, forgery and impersonation. In its over 700-page chargesheet filed in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja, the police alleged that 63-year-old Ghandy along with his associates was trying to build a Maoist corridor in the national capital.

The investigators, who claimed to have recovered a fake voter identity and pan cards from Ghandy, also referred to a CD in which he was shown to be addressing armed cadres of the banned organisation. He was arrested in New Delhi on 20 September, 2009. They also pointed out that after his arrest, Jharkhand police inspector Francis Induwar was killed i0n October and leaflets were distributed in Maharashtra calling for a bandh to protest his detention.
