A senior police officer said terrorists shot at Assistant Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad from close range in main Pulwama chowk where he was on duty.
“The ASI received critical bullet injury to his head and succumbed while being shifted to the hospital,” the officer said. Senior police officers rushed to the spot and the area was searched. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
