Orissa Congress Member of Legislative Assembly Shibaji Majhi, who his party has alleged was kidnapped at the behest of the ruling Biju Janata Dal, did not turn up to cast his vote in the Rajya Sabha elections till Thursday afternoon.
"We have received a written complaint from the MLA's wife Rupa Majhi. The police have started investigating the complaint," Kalahandi Superintendent of Police Sudha Singh said over phone.
Rupa said in her complaint that she suspected her husband was kidnapped by people belonging to a rival political party after he left his home in Lanjigarh on June 14.
"He has not called us, nor could be contacted over phone. Sibaji also did not reach his official quarters here," she said.
On Wednesday, Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee working president and Kalahandi Member of Parliament Bhakta Charan Das made a similar complaint at a police station here.
He had alleged that Majahi was kidnapped at the behest of the ruling BJD.
"As the Congress MLA's absence will help BJD candidate in RS polls, he has been kidnapped by the ruling party," he said.
Majhi did not reach the Orissa Assembly premises till 2 pm to cast his vote in the RS polls.
Another Congress MLA Gregory Minj also did not turn up for voting till 2 pm, assembly sources said.
BJP MLA Bhimsen Choudhury, who was also allegedly kidnapped before the polls, too did not turn up.
